Willamette Stone LLC awarded a new mixed-use building in Portland, Oregon to Truebeck Construction. The project is set for completion in February 2020. Willamette Stone LLC is a real estate investment firm based in the Pacific Northwest. They have over three decades of experience and assets in multi-housing, office, retail, industrial, hospitality, and self-storage.

This project will be among the new modern buildings to grace the Portland downtown area, specifically the Central Eastside Industrial District. With a modern and sustainable design, the Beech Street project will stand out as a symbol of Portland’s progressive and growing economy.

The $6 million project will encompass 20,381 square feet and will be on the corner of North Beech Street and North Vancouver Avenue. The ground-up, mixed-use project utilizes a timber and concrete structure with metal panels and a storefront façade. The street view walls will be comprised mostly of windows to allow an abundance of natural light. Truebeck Construction is partnered with Fieldwork Design and Architecture to deliver the project with a design-build method.

The structure itself will replace an existing 118-year-old, single-family residence. The City of Portland Bureau of Development Services approved the demolition and new structure design. With regards to how well the new structure’s design integrates into the neighborhood, the Bureau of Development Services said in a memo to locals, “The office and retail use on a small site creates a density and diversity of uses on the growing Vancouver/Williams corridor. The simple material palette, massing shifts, setbacks, and use of landscaping between the proposed building and existing development respect and enhance the existing context… Careful detailing, high quality materials, and the inclusion of street level planting also help to reduce the overall impact of new development on the neighborhood. These guidelines have been met.”

The team responsible for the development of the Beech Street project are natives of Portland and they possess extensive history on delivering downtown projects. As such, the team will implement practices that mitigate the impact of construction on the local community.

Truebeck Construction opened its Portland office in 2019. With numerous projects in development, the Truebeck Portland team is poised to bring the same progressive legacy to Portland that it has to the San Francisco Bay Area.
