There’s an old saying that goes, “do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life,” and this is truly how I feel about our industry. Sure, it’s a challenging business, but there aren’t many professions where you can create long-lasting relationships, improve your community, and have a sense of true value to society.
What we build goes beyond the buildings themselves. Construction gives us the opportunity to improve the lives of the people who live in the communities we serve. Also, aAs leaders in the industry, we are mentoring the younger generation of workers and helping them build character, integrity, skill, and leadership—all of which make the world we live in a better place.
I have been so impressed with the people here at Truebeck. We have some of the most talented and smartest people I have been around.
Nothing fires me up more than playing a role in the personal and professional development of a coworker. It’s so gratifying to help my colleagues grow and realize life-long dreams for themselves and their families.
Honesty and reliability are the two character traits I value most in people, and the ones I try to lead with myself.
If I’m not at work, you’ll find me spending time with my family, golfing, or working on my deer farm in Alabama.
My life philosophy can be summed up by the following: 1) Treat people how you want to be treated and 2) Find your purpose in life, work hard, and have fun!
I was 10 when I realized how much I loved building things. I started helping my dad with his building projects around the house and found myself asking questions, making suggestions, and coming up with new ways to approach our projects. It was never a chore or something I did begrudgingly; rather, it was an opportunity to contribute and to create something. It’s been a passion ever since!
Good leaders get things done, but great leaders don’t just accomplish tasks—they also change the world and those around them. To me, a great leader is someone who inspires those around them to be better and to find passion in their work. They give everyone a sense of purpose and fulfillment in their roles.
Raising my kids is the most important thing I’ll ever do, and I see it as my chance to make a lasting impact on the world. My wife and I are committed to teaching our children how to add value to the world—to their families, their companies, and their communities. Our hope is that they grow up to be active contributors to society and to those around them. We see this as our legacy.
Why would I make decisions in a vacuum when I’m surrounded by so many smart, talented people? I am a naturally collaborative person. I appreciate my team members and value their thoughts and ideas. It is crucial to me that my team feels heard, knowing that I’ve carefully considered their opinions and viewpoints. I want them to know the outcome of our collaboration includes their voice.
My mother was my greatest teacher. She was the most patient, kind, thoughtful, and giving person. She was also deeply rooted in her faith and lived her life every day like it was her last. She passed away recently, and I think I am just now realizing how valuable her teachings were to me. Growing up, I’m not sure I truly appreciated her qualities and how important they are to living a full life. I find myself reflecting on her characteristics, and I try to do my best to emulate her positive qualities and the way she lived her life.
